As mentioned in a previous blog post, in order to experience the many benefits of Ashwagandha, I created a porridge recipe. It was inspired by a Magical Ashwagandha Drink recipe that I found online – which unfortunately is no longer available. 🙁 I cut that recipe in half initially just to try it. I found the drink to be a bit gritty, so I eventually began using it as a base for what became my Booster Porridge recipe. My adaptation makes 2 servings and is as follows:
Base Ingredients
1 cup organic unsweetened non-dairy milk
1 tsp organic Ashwagandha root powder
1 tsp organic maple (or Date) syrup
cinnamon to taste
Porridge Ingredients
¼ cup of organic rolled oats
¼ cup of organic unsweetened coconut flakes
2 tbsp of raw sliced almonds
1 fresh organic apple cut in 1/2
Instructions
>Warm the non-dairy milk in a small sauce pan on low heat – NOTE: Don’t let it come to a boil
>Add the rest of the Base Ingredients and whisk until everything is combined
>Add all of the Porridge Ingredients except for the organic apple pieces
>Cook over medium heat until mixed thoroughly
>Turn off heat and cover until the porridge thickens slightly (~ 5 minutes)
>Using 2 bowls, slice and cube 1/2 apple into each bowl
>Pour half of the porridge over the apple pieces in each bowl
My Recipe Notes
My favorite non-dairy milk for this recipe is organic unsweetened plain almond milk. I have also tried organic unsweetened plain coconut milk, organic oat milk, and sometimes a combination of whatever I have on hand. Be aware that oat milk has a tendency to be a bit sweet. Since I make 2 servings with this recipe, I use 1 teaspoon of Ashwagandha root powder – versus the typical 1/2 teaspoon.
Experiment, make it your own, and enjoy!
