Do you believe there are Angels everywhere? Regardless of religious or spiritual beliefs, many people have an affinity or love for Angels.
Years ago, one of my first poems was inspired by watching an old classic film called *The Bishop’s Wife. The movie featured Cary Grant as the Angel, Loretta Young as the Bishop’s wife, and David Niven as the Bishop. I love this movie! My favorite part of the movie is the automatically refilling wine bottle. 😀 NOTE: *The Preacher’s Wife film starring Denzel Washington was a remake of this movie.

Anyhow, as I was watching The Bishop’s Wife, I reflected on how Angels are often among us in many places or situations, but we don’t even realize it. I was inspired to write a poem entitled *Angels, and it’s a popular piece in my The Power of Poetry: From the Heart collection.
Another one of my favorite Angel movies is *City of Angels (set in Los Angeles) with Nicholas Cage, Meg Ryan, and Andre Braugher. It’s awesome how the Angels hang out at the library, and near airport runways, and are occasionally visible to small children who smile knowingly. My favorite quote from the movie is “I can’t see you, but I know you’re there”. As an aside, the soundtrack is pretty great as well. 😉 NOTE: This movie is based on the Wim Wenders foreign film *Wings of Desire. His movie is set in Berlin Germany – before the wall came down.
What’s the Point?
To return to the question though, are there Angels everywhere? Perhaps you too have been on the receiving end of an outcome that worked out in your favor without exerting any effort, and without having any control whatsoever. Coincidence? Maybe. Maybe not.
I share this story to illustrate a point. Regardless of the genre, topic or plot, movies can inspire us in unexpected ways. They can speak to us, touch us, and maybe even whisper an answer to an unspoken question. Even better, it’s a very individual experience. One movie can be watched by 3 different viewers, and impact them (or not) in different ways. Likewise, one movie can be watched by the same viewer at various times, and hit them differently each time.
How about you? Have you ever experienced what you believed to be an Angelic encounter? Have you ever been moved to action by a movie? Let us know in the comments.
My angelic encounters have been small, not movie inspired, but very real. In one, I am about 16, in the park at dawn walking my dog. I see several boys heading towards me. I am suddenly afraid. I then hear whistling from just behind me towards my house. I look back because someone is whistling my dad’s favorite spiritual. He had been deceased 5 years by then. I expected to see my mother or sister. There is only an empty baseball diamond. I turn back and see that the boys have turned around and are walking away quickly, laughing nervously. I think about turning back home but feel very calm and decide to continue my walk. In another encounter, I am lost, trying to take my son to a party but I lost the address and directions. I am driving in the vicinity. A stranger heads past me driving in the opposite direction, stops his car, rolls down the window and asks if I am looking for a children’s party. I nod and am given the address and precise directions. I wonder how he knew. When I arrive I describe him but the hostess says only women have come to bring their children. My angels are there when I need them most.
Thank you so much for sharing these experiences Virdella. I think many of our angelic encounters actually feel pretty ordinary at the time, and it’s only upon reflection that we realize how extraordinary it really was. Makes me wonder how many we miss. 😉
