Autumn is the season for letting go. In nature, we love to watch the trees transform to their beautiful Fall Colors before they shed their leaves. In life, as in nature, we too can prepare to let go using Qigong. YOQI’s Qigong Flow for Happy Lungs series is the perfect guide for this process.

But why would we want Happy Lungs? Of course we know the lungs are important from a physical standpoint. We need them healthy in order to breathe efficiently and get oxygen into the body. Happy Lungs are healthy lungs. Energetically, the lungs are considered the Commanders of Qi. A common saying in Qigong is “Where the breath goes, energy flows”.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine’s Five Element Theory: Metal is the element of the lungs, it’s corresponding color is white, and it is symbolized by the Tiger. The tiger represents courage and internal power in Qigong.

By doing the Happy Lungs Qigong flows, we support the lungs and it’s partner organ, the large intestine. We let go of any sadness, depression, or grief that the lungs may be holding on to, and we transform it into inspiration, courage and acceptance. Additionally, we strengthen the lungs, and in so doing we bolster our immune system. This is very important during our current circumstances.

The Qigong Flow for Happy Lungs series offer us a few options for the routines. We can choose between the longer full routine, or a shorter routine. We can also elect to do either routine with, or without music. The shorter routine is ideal for when time is a bit tight, but I highly recommend doing the full routine initially, and as often as possible afterwards. Along with benefiting from a longer practice, this routine contains flows that embody the tiger. During the tiger flows we also get to growl like a tiger which can be fun and therapeutic. Some of my favorite flows in the series are the following:
Tiger Clears a Path – opens the meridians (energy pathways) in the arms
Swimming through the Clouds – cultivates inspiration and courage
Guan Yin Draws a Rainbow – opens the Lung meridian. Balances Yin and Yang energy on the front, back, left and right sides

Precautions

Please note the typical Disclaimer at the beginning of the video series. Additionally, throughout the flows, be sure to follow the guidance that Marisa shares at one point during the program: “Listen to your body here. Feel free to take a break from the exercises anytime that you need to. There is no need to strain the body in any Qigong movements.” Further, if you have any medical conditions, you may want to skip the breath holds during the some of the flows.
