On Love is a tribute post in honor of the late Thich Nhat Hanh, who passed away on January 22, 2022 at the age of 95. I was very sad to hear that news. Years ago, I was introduced to his audio programs and books. I loved his powerful teachings and his wonderful sense of humor. I still have his Teachings On Love audio program. As I listened to it again, I remembered being at an event many years ago. A customer asked if I was Buddhist after reading some of my poetry. I know Nhat Hanh definitely had an impact on me, and I am sure he impacted many others over the course of his life.
Riding Out the Storm
Soon after hearing of his passing, I picked up one of his books: Peace Is Every Breath: a practice for our busy lives. As I read it, I realized that many of his teachings are truly timeless. Case in point: Riding Out the Storm is a short chapter about dealing with emotional distress. I found a blog post online that contains brief snippets from Riding Out the Storm, and includes the simple breathing technique Nhat Hanh shared to aid with countering such distress. I was thrilled to find it because it makes it easier for me to share this much needed resource with others.
Oprah’s Interview
If you’d like to learn more about this incredible man, have a look at this video excerpt of Oprah Winfrey’s interview with him from years ago. Among other things, he speaks of his relationship with Martin Luther King Jr., and the four powerful mantras for maintaining loving relationships.
Qigong Flow For Love
To conclude, I thought it would be fitting to share a free YOQI Qigong Flow For Love video available on YouTube. Thich Nhat Hanh often taught meditation and qigong is a moving meditation. He also frequently taught about love in it’s various forms. As Marisa states, this qigong flow is about tuning in to the love that already exists inside ourselves. Enjoy the flow, and if you can, please check out one of the many publications by Thich Nhat Hanh. Peace!
